I was promoted today from Sergeant (E-5) to Staff Sergeant (E-6). I want to say that I’ve worked really hard to earn this, however the more I think about it, the more I realize that I don’t do anything out of the ordinary [for me].
A couple years ago, I got to a point where I had enough experience to be able to evaluate the leaders appointed over me. I embraced the lessons I learned from the great leaders, and realized I could do a better job than the ones who did not meet my standard.
This mindset encouraged and motivated me away from being merely comfortable/satisfied with my actions, transforming me to pursue excellence not only in my actions, but by encouraging those around me as well.
I look forward to earning my next promotion, one that can only be dissolved by an Act of Congress.
